How Are The Signs Made?

The artwork for the lettering and the graphics are custom designed by Urban CNC on a computer and then signs are carved on Urban CNC’s in-house designed cnc router.

1. Artwork is drawn on the computer. 
2. CNC program is generated for the engraving.
3. After engraving on the cnc router, engraved areas are hand sanded and deburred. 
4. Flat areas are sanded to 320 grit. Edges are roughed up for a more rustic look.
5. Entire sign is stained using water based
6. At least three coats of clear coat applied with light sanding between coats.
7. Engraved areas are hand painted with Acrylic paint. (2-3 coats) 
8. At least two more coats of clear coat applied to seal the acrylic paint.

Customization?

Your family is unique so it is important to customize your Family Sign. The signs are Made to Order so the following can be easily customized.

Standard Customization: (free)

Family Name: Input your last name. If your name is longer than 10 letters the font size will be reduced to fit.

Letter: The large letter on the sign is the first letter of the Family Name.

Year of Marriage: This is used for the EST (established) year at the bottom.

Engraving Colour: Choose a paint colour for the all the engraved lettering and graphics

Advanced Customization: (additional charge)

Family Crest / Graphic: You can add a family crest or graphic to your sign. Examples include Coat of Arms, Celtic Knots, etc. Not all letters of the alphabet work well with graphics. 

Sign Fonts: The font style can be changed if you want to give your sign a specific theme. Examples would be celtic, medieval, fantasy, etc.

Multiple Engraving Colours: Choose more than one colour for engraved areas. Standard only allows one colour choice.

Sign Colour: Standard stain colour is brown. Other colours available by special request.

Sign Materials And Finishes?

Sign Materials:

• Signs are made from knotty pine.
• Wood is hand selected to give unique wood grain appearance and reduce the number of knots in the wood.
• Text is engraved into the wood, not painted.

Finishing:

• Sanding up to 320 grit.
• Water based stain.
  • Colours may vary from the pictures shown.
• Water based clear coat
  • Seals wood so it can be used indoors or outdoors.

Sign Mounting

• Signs come standard with a braided wire hanger.
• Size: Height 16in x Width 16in
